Two Dynamic Events, One Weekend

ConnectiCon and Readercon are over for 2014, and it was a banner?weekend for?us at both events.

For the third year in a row ConnectiCon and Readercon went off without a hitch. It’s one of the only weekends all year long where we have two major events on one 10551128_540308942740331_2542541279508386517_nweekend. It’s the biggest deployment of members and equipment on our yearly calender. Over the past weekend, we had over 18 Operation Hammond members deployed on two sites in two states. We had over 20?two way radios deployed, as was just about every piece of equipment and?first aid bag we own this past weekend.

We aided and assisted countless people?at ConnectiCon and Readercon last weekend.?We helped many people with?basic first aid care,?provided compassionate advice to people in stressful situations, assisted people with social issues and?coordinated ambulance transport for those that needed it.

This marked the first time ever Operation Hammond has covered?four separate sites between two conventions. It was truly our most dynamic event to date. Our primary HQ?First Aid station was located in the Marriott, we co-staffed the First Aid room in the Convention Center, and had a First Aid outpost in the Hilton, where most of ConnectiCon’s gaming took place this year.?We worked closely with the?Connecticut?Convention Center, Hartford Downtown Marriott, Hartford Hilton, and Burlington, MA Marriott. We would like to thank Ron and John of the Connecticut Convention Center for there continued support to enable us to work closely with their staff.

Over the course of the weekend, we met lots of awesome cosplayers, conrunners, fans?and other great people.

Readercon is fandom’s largest and most celebrated sci-fi book and publishing convention. This past weekend, Readercon’s charity fundraiser raised over 1,200 to be split with us and the Boston Area Rape Crisis Center. The generosity of the attendees and staff of Readercon enable us to help nerds in times of need.

Be sure to follow us on Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, YouTube and here on our website to keep up to date with what’s going on with?us. We are only mid way through the summer convention season, and?trust us when we say the best is yet to come.
